Anne Meara died

Anne Meara, a great comedienne and talented actress in general died at 85, on Saturday, May 23 her family announced. She was part of a team “ Stiller and Meara “ and now, since she is gone, sadly that team lost one half.

Anne Meara was very talented and quick-witted lady, and people who knew her said that she was a kind soul and a lovely mother, wife and grandmother.
She was married to Jerry Stiller and this amazing couple was married for incredible 61 years. One thing that is especially sweet is that they worked together almost as long as their marriage lasted.

The family statement said: “ Anne’s memory lives on in the hearts of daughter Amy, son Ben, her grandchildren, her extended family and friends and the millions she entertained as an actress, writer and comedienne. “

She was born in 1929 in Brooklyn, New York where she studied acting and her aspiration and ambition was to become an actress in the tradition of Maureen Stapleton. Back then she thought she will be a “ serious “ actress, but then she met a young boy, Stiller and fell in love with the comedy.

Anne was thrilled to be a comedienne, because then you wouldn’t have to wait for an agent to call you in case they have a good part for you, they just traveled with their own stuff. Meanwhile the couple made their name as Stiller and Meara in the 1960s and they had frequent performances on shows such as “ The Ed Sullivan Show “.
